Milton Van Dyke Gallery of Fluid Motion Award | APS DFD 2025

19 January, 2026

At the 2025 APS Division of Fluid Dynamics Meeting in Houston, the Milton Van Dyke Gallery of Fluid Motion Award was awarded to a video by Dilip Maity, Nilamani Sahoo, Sandip Dighe, Fauzia Wardani and Professor Tadd Truscott pf the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

The award is one of the highest honors in the Gallery of Fluid Motion, which recognizes work that combines scientific insight with visual clarity. The highest honor is named after the imaging pioneer of modern fluid dynamics, Milton Van Dyke, the prize celebrates entries that make fluid mechanics both accurate and accessible.

The winning video stood out for its clean experimental design and its ability to reveal complex fluid behavior through imagery alone. Judges highlighted its strong physical grounding and its effectiveness as a teaching tool, without sacrificing visual appeal.

The work reflects the broader strengths of Truscott’s research team, known for experimental studies of high-speed and multiphase flows, including droplet impact, cavitation and extreme fluid–structure interactions. The group is widely recognized for pairing advanced diagnostics with clear physical interpretation.

As with all Milton Van Dyke Award recipients, the work will be published in Physical Review Fluids.
