Abstract

Carbon is a versatile material, with diverse allotropes in different dimensions. Achieving a two-dimensional carbon sheet with embedded metals has remained elusive, despite being a model system for single-atom catalysts. Here, I will discuss how to use a metal surface to synthesize such material and the local information that can be achieved with surface-sensitive techniques, such as atomic force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy.
