Abstract
Quantum mechanics is the most fundamental science governing the behavior of everything in the universe — in this sense, everything can be quantum. Quantum computing, as a grand engineering endeavor of the century, pushes the limits of humanity’s ability to control the microscopic world and has the potential to provide disruptive computational power for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. As the saying goes, to do a good job, one must first sharpen one’s tools. Following a brief overview of the development of the Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering, this talk will focus on the current landscape of the quantum information industry in China and abroad, and discuss the critical importance of scientific instrumentation, technological self-reliance, and independent innovation for the advancement of quantum science and industry.
