THE IAC core lab offers cutting-edge instrumentation supported by cutting-edge expertise for various techniques of microscopy and spectroscopy. That includes NMR, TEM & SEM, XRD, RAMAN, XPS, SIMS, AFM, and optical microscopy. These characterization techniques are essential to any research project. These technologies regularly drive innovation in the field of life sciences and material sciences. From the classical techniques used in imaging and spectroscopy to the most recent development in Cryo-electron tomography, this presentation will address the challenges encountered today by our scientific community to achieve high spatial resolution combined with accurate atomic identification. I will present the benefits of adopting a cross-disciplinary approach to tackle today's questions in material science and engineering.
Dr. Rachid Sougrat received his Ph.D. from University Paris-VII (France) in 2002 as a Parfums Christian Dior Fellow. He then moved to the USA, worked for seven years at the NIH (National Institutes of Health) in Bethesda, and led the NIH-CBMP electron microscopy facility. In 2009, he joined KAUST as a founding member of the electron microscopy core laboratory. He is currently the director of the Imaging and characterization core labs (IAC). The IAC core labs provide support and expertise in a wide range of applications in chemistry, material science, and life science.
