Nitrogen-containing molecules, such as amines, enamines, and imines are important structural motifs found widely in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. Imine synthesis through hydroamination of alkynes has been studied using Ti, Ru, Rh, Ir and most importantly Au catalysts. Usually, Cu complexes possess similar catalytic properties to Au complexes; Cu catalysts being robust and cheap could be a good choice for this transformation but less explored. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a PN3 Cu(I) complex. The effectiveness of the catalyst towards the hydroamination of phenylacetylene has been explored.
