Welcome to the Chemical Engineering Program

PROGRAM CHAIR:

Mani Sarathy, Ph.D.

Professor of Chemical Engineering

Building 5, Level 4, Room 4221

The Chemical Engineering Program offers students opportunities to develop real-world solutions to global challenges by performing rigorous coursework studies and cutting-edge research in chemical engineering. These include developing new materials and processes for gas and liquid separations, water desalination, catalysis, sustainable energy, and nanotechnology, as well as advancing new ideas in process design and control and reactor design.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about graduate study programs and faculty research groups.

M.Sc. Degree

The Master's Degree (M.Sc.) is awarded upon successful completion of a minimum of 36 credit hours. Students are expected to complete the M.Sc. degree within 3 to 4 semesters (including one summer semester, i.e., 12 to 18 months in total). The M.Sc. degree is offered for traditional full-time students and could be a terminal M.Sc., as well as a gateway to the Ph.D. program. All M.Sc. students are expected to complete a capstone experience that includes thesis preparation and oral defense. The non-thesis option is not supported in the Chem Program.

Ph.D. Degree

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is designed to prepare students for research careers in academia and industry. Typically it takes from 3 to 4 years to complete with prior M.Sc. degree. The achieving Ph.D. degree requires original research, culminating in the Ph.D. Dissertation Defense.
