KAUST Joins the Ranks of the World’s Leading Chemical Engineering Institutions with AIChE Student Chapter Approval

29 May, 2025

We are proud to announce that the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has officially approved the establishment of a student chapter at KAUST—marking a major milestone for our Chemical Engineering (CE) program and for the university as a whole.

“Being granted an AIChE student chapter at KAUST represents a significant recognition of our Chemical Engineering program's growing impact and academic excellence,” said Professor Pedro Castaño, professor of chemical engineering in the Physical Science and Engineering Division at KAUST. “It provides our students with direct access to a global professional network, opportunities for leadership development, and greater visibility within the international chemical engineering community. This milestone strengthens our commitment to advancing student engagement, fostering innovation, and connecting KAUST’s CE program with the broader goals of the AIChE.”

As one of the world’s most prestigious professional organizations in the field, AIChE represents more than 60,000 members across industry and academia. Our new chapter will serve as a launchpad for students to explore the frontiers of chemical engineering, take on leadership roles, and actively shape the future of the profession.

“This chapter is about building a platform where students can connect globally, pursue innovative ideas, and contribute to impactful solutions through chemical engineering,” said Daffer Alyami, student in the Chemical Engineering Program. “It’s a step toward turning our academic journey into meaningful contribution—beyond the classroom, and beyond borders.”

The chapter is now open for enrollment. We invite all KAUST students in Chemical Engineering and related disciplines to be part of this exciting new community.
