KAUST Professor Omar Mohammed has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP). FInstP is the highest membership level attainable within the Institute of Physics (IOP).

According to the IOP, the honor is reserved for those “with a degree in physics or related subject (or equivalent knowledge gained in the workplace) and who made a significant contribution to significant[ly] impact[ed] their field.”

The IOP is an international society that fosters the advancement of knowledge, community, career development, and professional recognition for its members. It aims to bring together, inspire, guide, represent and celebrate all those who share a passion for physics.

Of his election, Professor Mohammed said: “The election to the IOP truly represents a global recognition of my significant contributions to the fields of physics and device engineering. The award further emphasizes the impact and significance of my work that has been acknowledged and appreciated by my peers and the broader scientific community worldwide.”  

Mohammed’s research primarily aims to understand carrier dynamics in light conversion materials, including solar cell and X-ray imaging scintillation and detection. This research utilizes cutting-edge nanotechnology, ultrafast laser spectroscopy and four-dimensional electron imaging.

“I am committed to advancing our exploration of novel materials for X-ray scintillation and enthusiastically pushing toward their commercialization. Indeed, the future holds thrilling prospects,” he concluded.
