KAUST students continued their tradition of success at this years' International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2019).  The Saudi Team (mentored by Professor Kuo-Wei (Andy) Huang), brought back one silver and two bronze medals, plus an honorable mention for the youngest member of the team.

Osama Al-Ali (Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI)  2019) won the silver medal, while students Rabab Al-Rufayi (KAUST Gifted Student Program (KGSP) ) and Mohammed Al-Khurisi (KAUST Gifted Student Program (KGSP) , Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) 2018) won bronze medals. Eyad Al-Salhi, (10th grade) received the honorable mention.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level. Nations around the world send a team of four students who are tested on their chemistry knowledge and skills in a five-hour laboratory practical exam and a five-hour written theoretical examination that are held on separate days with the practical examination usually being before the theoretical examination.

This years' meeting, the 51st, was held in Paris, France and hosted participating teams from 80 countries.

During the meeting it was announced that Saudi Arabia has been chosen to host the Olympiad in 2024.
