Nikos Hadjichristidis, KAUST Distinguished Professor of Chemical Science, is the winner of the 2020 H.F. Mark Medal from the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology (OFI). The annual award honors outstanding individuals in the area of polymer science. The work of Professor Hadjichristidis has contributed significantly to the development of polymer science over many years. His research predominately focuses on the synthesis of novel homopolymers, copolymers and hybrids (polymers/polypeptides, polymers/CNT) with well-defined complex macromolecular architectures by anionic polymerization (AP) high vacuum techniques and combinations of AP with other polymerization methodologies.
The H.F. Mark Medal is one of the highest awards in the field of polymer sciences and is awarded in Honor of the Austrian-American chemist Prof. Hermann Franz Mark (* 1895 in Vienna; † 1992 in Texas), who is regarded as a pioneer of modern polymer science.Professor Hadjichristidis will be presented with the Medal at the OFI Award Ceremony in Vienna, Austria in October.
