Francesca Serra is a science communication expert with over 30 years of combined experience in research, policy, and strategic communication. At KAUST, she has led science communication for over a decade, where she established and built the communication framework for two of KAUST’s three research divisions, driving visibility, engagement, and outreach for major science and technology initiatives.
Earlier in her career, she served for nine years at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, contributing to EU research and communication projects, including risk analysis and risk communication for the EIS-ChemRisks information system, CommHERE, and providing scientific support to OLAF, DG AGRI, DG MARE, TAIEX, and others.
She has also curated and organized major events, including the EU Info Days and CERN Info Day (2024), the KAUST Research Conference on Robotics and Autonomy (2021-22), and international forums such as Women in Science and Engineering (2025), Super Artistic AI (2021), and WiDS KAUST (2018).
Throughout her career, she has focused on translating complex scientific research into accessible, impactful storytelling that bridges science, policy, and society.
